{"id":1466,"date":"2005-11-09T21:50:38","date_gmt":"2005-11-09T21:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dup.candelilla.org\/cms\/?p=1466"},"modified":"2013-01-16T22:46:25","modified_gmt":"2013-01-16T22:46:25","slug":"uaslp-works-in-a-research-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dup.candelilla.org\/?p=1466","title":{"rendered":"NEWS &#8211; UASLP works in a research project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><span style=\"color: #000000;\">UASLP works in a research project, for the application of Candelilla wax in food products.<\/span><\/h6>\r\n<address style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">NOV. 09\/2005<\/span><\/address><address style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<\/address>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The Department of Chemistry of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi (Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de San Luis Potos\u00ed-UASLP in Spanish), is conducting a research project on the use of Candelilla wax to develop organogels, in blends with vegetable oils with high oleic acid concentration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The aim of this project is to support the use of native vegetable oils in the production of structured products such as spreads, margarine and coatings without the use of hydrogenated oils. These oils have high concentrations of trans fatty acids.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The results of several clinical trials, carried out in different countries, associate the increase in \u201cbad\u201d cholesterol and the decrease in \u201cgood\u201d cholesterol with diets rich in trans fatty acids. These conditions are highly associated with a larger incidence of cardiovascular diseases.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The adverse effects of these fatty acids have been recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and by the European Food Safety Authority. FDA requires that, starting 2006, the trans fat content must be listed on the nutrition information labels.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This project is carried out by Juan A.
